CANAL HOLIDAY HIRE - Your Questions, Answered
QIs any experience needed for canal holiday hire?
No previous experience of handling electric narrowboats
or diesel narrowboats is necessary, as full tuition will be given
covering things such as how to steer the narrowboat,
lock operation and waterway etiquette. We also
provide a boat manual covering all aspects of
the canal boat.
QCan I bring my pet on my canal holiday?
Pets are welcome and they generally have a great time too. It costs just an
extra £15.00 per pet, per booking. However please keep them off the upholstery
and bedding.
Please note that we do not allow pets on some of our canal boats.
QHow can I find out more about canal holiday hire on the Mon & Brec Canal?
We recommend a detailed
guidebook specifically about this canal written by John Norris. Full of information
about the canal and canal etiquette, which we believe, will enhance the enjoyment
of your holiday. This guide book is included in the cost of your narrowboat
holiday and will be sent to you on payment of your final balance.
QHow do I find
you?
We are situated approximately 3 miles due west of Abergavenny, in the village
of Gilwern. From the centre of Gilwern take the A4077 towards Brecon/Crickhowell.
After approximately 200 yards turn left up Church Road, opposite the Corn Exchange
Public House. After approximately 200 yards you will go over the canal, take
next left into Maesygwartha Road then directly left down the drive onto our
wharf. MAP
QAre there any other activities?
Other activities available on your canal holiday are fishing, climbing,
walking. Pony trekking and indoor swimming pools are available within easy
reach of the canal. We've put together a Links page which includes links to places of interest around the canal and information about the canal and surrounding areas,
QDo you provide bedding?
Yes, either double duvets or single sleeping bags,
as per your requirements on the booking form. One pillow per person is provided;
please ask if you would like more.
QAre there any extras to pay?
The hire charge includes gas, diesel, electricity, guide book, on site car
parking, bedding, bouyancy aids and damage waiver cover. The only additional
cost is for any pet.
QCan I take a short break canal holiday?
These are available on our Friday and Monday start
boats. You can take either a weekend break, starting at 3pm on Friday and finishing
at 9.30am on Monday, or a mid week break, starting at 3pm on Monday and finishing
at 9.30am on Friday.
Dear Nick, Sharon & Family
We would like to say what a wonderful week we had on
Pencelli Castle, 25 March to the 1st of April.
The weather was good most of the time and the scenery
fantastic. The lambs, daffodils, primroses and birdsong, well, what a great
time of year to be on the Mon and Brec Canal.
The Pencelli Castle is a beautiful boat with all you need
and more, immaculate inside and out. Sorry, we were first time narrowboaters
so had a few scratches on return! Thankyou very much for all your help and kindness, you're a
great team at Castle Narrowboats.
Regards, Carol & Phil Williams
